Objectives
In any clinical research, before being analysed, data must be gathered. So, it is important to create questionnaires and register all the available information in a database. Relational databases are the more appropriate way of doing so as they allow for logical and syntax validations at the entry stage. Only then, we may proceed with the analysis with a guarantee of the good quality of the data. It is, though, important that future researchers acquire the knowledge to create a relational database (thru Microsoft Office Access), whenever they have a dataset to be analysed. After that, the statistical analysis of the data follows. All the statistical concepts that were taught at Biostatistics I will be reviewed from a practical point of view and multivariable regression models (multiple linear, logistic and Cox regression models), corresponding applicability assumptions and analysis of the residuals will be addressed. Practical implementation of the exercises will use the software SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).
This training should promote the following abilities: a) to create a relational database and implement it with Microsoft Office Access; b) to fit the adequate statistical model to a dataset; c) to verify the corresponding assumptions and d) to do a residual analysis.
