o   Rules for Scientific Presentations – Dr. Nilza Gonçalves

o   Nutrition and Surgery – Prof. Doctor. Marilia Cravo

o   Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine – Prof. Doctor Rui Maio

 

·         Hands-on Sessions

Each of the following sessions has 60min duration and includes detailed indications, required equipment, step-by-step protocol and complications for each procedure:

 

o   Invasive Techniques. Training, supervision, ethical questions, informed consent.

o   Basic principles of infection prevention. Sterile procedures.

o   Peripheral intravenous access; Management of fluid therapy and seringe pumps; Venipuncture, intra dermal-muscle and subcutaneous puncture; blood cultures collection; arterial blood sample; central and arterial access.

o   Local anesthesia; suture techniques; Abscess drainage; Approach to ingrown nails; Approach to nail hematoma.

o   Algaliation; Supra pubic bladder puncture; Suprapubic catheterization.

o   Nasogastric intubation; paracentesis; rectal examination; Anuscopy

o   Immobilization of shoulder, elbow, wrist and fingers, ankle,; casts; Radial Head Subluxation Joint Reduction; Shoulder Reduction Technique

o   Orotracheal intubation. Emergency tracheotomy

o   Thoracic Drainage.

 

 

 

Daily practice

Each of the attending physicians should have no more than 3 registrars/students during daily activities – clinic, ward, operating room, emergency room. Students are welcome in all clinical sessions taking place in the hospital. Each procedure should be notified in the student’s logbook.

 

·         Symposium

At the end of the rotation each group is required to present a case report with a bibliographic review in a particular field or pathology.

Teaching method
