Objectives

At the end of this unit, the participants will demonstrate:

·         Understanding and the ability to explain the use and the value of exercise assessment in specific populations

·         Competence to select, adequately apply and interpret the test which aims to evaluate the different physical qualities, in specific populations

·         Knowledge and understanding of the intensity, frequency, duration and type of exercise, recommended to the characteristics and aims of the client/specific population

·         Competence to select and demonstrate the adequate methods of monitoring the intensity of exercise

·         Competence to structure and evaluate at short, medium and long term, a progressive exercise programme, according to the needs of the client or specific population.

Prerequisites

 

Subject matter

·         pre-test evaluation: previous clinical history, overall physical evaluation and counter-indications to the evaluation of exercise;

·         Modalities and protocols of exercise assessment: body composition, cardio-vascular capacity, muscular strength and flexibility;

·         Evaluation of physical qualities and interpretation of results: principles of exercise evaluation, body composition, cardio-vascular capacity, muscular strength and flexibility;

·         General principles of exercise prescription and introduction of methodology/structure of exercise;

·         Exercise Prescription in different specific populations.

Includes theoretical relevant seminars, group work, individual and group as well as tutorials.

Evaluation method

One essay with two components, individual and group

Individual written component - based on the evaluation or exercise prescription in a specific population (máx. 1500 words).

Group Component – demonstration of assessment and exercise prescription for a specific population.
