Objectives

At the end of this unit the student must demonstrate:

·         Knowledge and understanding of the concepts of health and well-being as well as the models within this framework

·         Knowledge and understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of the western society today,;

·         Ability to select, develop and apply effective communication ways in the promotion of individual and communities wellbeing

·         Knowledge and understanding of the concept of stress and its influence in the wellbeing of individuals and communities;

·         Ability to develop, apply, manage and evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention to promote health and wellbeing, using relaxation strategies, within the best available evidence

·         Ability to develop, apply, manage and evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention to promote health and wellbeing, using the psycho-somatic approach within the best available evidence;

·         Ability to implement an autonomous and reflexive practice within the health and wellbeing context, according to the ethical and deontological principles of the profession.

Subject matter

The concept of well-being and the intervention of physiotherapy, underlying theoretical models;

Teaching method

The methods used are focused in the students, respecting their professional interests and individual differences. There is a theoretical approach with seminars and lectures. Tutorials are also used. The individual study, bibliographical search, community activities and peer discussion are also used.

Evaluation method

This unit is assessed through a written essay and respective oral presentation.
