Education objectives
1) To have a wide and critical view of the human past together with an understanding of how this conditions the present and the future as well as our perception of both;
2) To show an understanding for points of view resulting from different historical antecedents, in distinct cultural and geographical contexts, in the interpretation of material culture;
3) To know about human presence and its material testimony within its historical context, in particular in present-day Portugal;
4) To have general knowledge of the material culture of the different periods in the History of Portugal;
5) To understand the methodologies and techniques used in archaeology as well as know about publication of the respective findings;
6) To acquire experience in the manipulation, interpretation and contextualisation of archaeological findings:
7) To gain archaeology field work and laboratory experience.
Access conditions
Completion of secondary education, with a minimum entry grade of 9.5 on a scale of 0 to 20. Students may also be admitted to Higher Education through special access and entry systems, re-enrolment systems, course changes and transfers. More information: http://www.acessoensinosuperior.pt
Degree pre-requisites
Each student must obtain 180 credits: 126 credits from compulsory courses of the study programme, one of which is Work Experience in Archaeology with 12 credits, 24 credits from elective options and 30 credits from free options or a Minor from another academic area. Each semester the student may not enrol in more than 30 credits and must respect any pre-requisites which have been set. At the beginning of each semester, the student is advised as to which courses are the most appropriate for their academic pathway and which they should take.
Access to other courses
Completion of the licenciatura degree allows the holder to apply for Masters programmes, or other post-graduate courses including those which do not confer a degree.
Evaluation rules
Assessment is in accordance with the assessment regulations approved by the competent statutory body.
