Objectives
a) To be familiar with methods of physical planning and of strategic planning.
b) To learn how to apply specific methodologies on analysis, diagnosis, setting goals, scenarios´s building, choice of alternatives.
c) To design solutions to solve planning problems at different scales.
d) To learn how to evaluate the results of implementing the proposed solutions.
e) To be able to write technical reports.

Subject matter
PROBLEMATICS OF SPATIAL PLANNING . Multidisciplinary on Spatial Planning: contributions of Geography. Territory according to a systemic approach. Concept of problem in spatial planning. Causes and consequences.
METHODS OF ANALYSIS AND DIAGNOSIS. Baseline: analysis of the territorial system. Diagnosis: SWOT Matrix. Actors strategy: goals and ways of working. Physical and property constraints to the land use transformation. Exemplification at various scales.
METHODOLOGIES FOR THE PROPOSAL: Space calculation at different scales. Projections and forecasts as the basis of spatial planning proposal. Classification and identification of land use. Plan Proposal: Plant Constraints, Plant and Spatial Regulation. Foresight and scenario building. Selection of alternatives for action. Developing strategies and a territorial model.
EVALUATION OF PLANNING PROCESS. Types of assessment and functional approach.

Practical classes: application of specific methodologies and techniques, oral presentation and discussion of case studies
Evaluation method
To each student is required:
- reading of selected literature, whose content shall be assessed through two written tests;
- participation in working groups and writing of a technical report.
