Objectives
a) To understand and identify the different phases of the development of printing since its appearance to the present;
b) To learn to distinguish the different printing types both by the font design and function within the typographic set;
c) To learn the printing process by analyzing its different phases: planning and ruling of the book, composition, printing,
assembly and binding;
d) To know the graphics elements integrating a book: capitals, decorative stripes and engravings;
e) To know the main historiographical interpretations of the studied subjects;
f) To know the fundamental bibliography of the subject and to be able to work with the respective historical documents;
g) To develop oral and written communication abilities, integrating the vocabulary and terminology of the approached
subjects.

Teaching method
Theoretical-practical classes where the students make contact with the books while following the professors exposition
and practical classes where the exposed subjects are learnt, commented and analyzed.
Evaluation method
Evaluation will consider: students participation on the resolution of the presented exercises, assiduity and participations
during the classes and at the courses blog (20%); developing an assignment with a practical case where the researched
data are interpreted (40%); written test (40%).
