Objectives
a) Identify the major political, economic, social and cultural processes that characterized the Portuguese presence in Asia.
b) Understand the internal and external dynamics that marked the cyclical trends in the Portuguese Estado da Índia.
c) Known and list the different dimensions of space-time history of the Portuguese presence in Asia.
d) Analyze the structures of the Portuguese presence in Asia, noting the continuities and innovations represented by them
in relation to local contexts.
e) Know the main historiographical interpretations of the subjects studied.
f) Know the basic bibliography of the subject and be able to work with historical documents of the same.
g) Develop ability to communicate orally and in writing, integrating the vocabulary and specific categories of the subjects
studied.
h) Acquire knowledge that enable the continuation of detailed studies on the Portuguese Expansion.

Teaching method
Theoretical lessons are based in lectures conducted by the teacher. Practical lessons are based on the discussion of topics
by students, under the guidance of the teacher, using the presentation, analysis and commentary of documental sources,
critical bibliography, audiovisual products, maps and other iconographic materials.
Evaluation method
Realization of a written test (40%). Realization of a written work (40%). Attendance and participation in practical classes
(20%).
