Objectives
a) To introduce undergraduate students to the practice of comparative analysis;
b) To develop critical thinking and the ability to analyse and compare different artistic expressions;
c) To develop students ability to produce multidisciplinary analysis to understand complex cultural expressions, both in the arts and in the humanities;
d) To improve students capacity to express complex thoughts in an academic environment;
e) To promote de ability to apply the knowledge acquired in complex contexts.

Subject matter
Narrative, myth and tópoi
1. The theoretical basis of comparative literature.
2. Introduction to comparative analysis.
3. Narrative as cognitive mechanism and preferential mean for communicative and literary expression.
4. The basic elements of narrative.
5. Myths as collective and multifunctional narratives.
6. Types of myth and the creation of possible narrative worlds (tópoi).
7. Storyworld and the real world: communication and relationships.
