Objectives

a) To acquire a basic level of proficiency in Galician language in order to understand and develop simple oral and written messages
b) To recognize the characteristics of the main periods of Galician literature, besides the authors and the most significant works
c) To understand the sociolinguistic reality of Galicia
d) To value Galician culture and its cultural and linguistic pluralism

Prerequisites

None.

Subject matter

This course aims to give the students a basic knowledge not only of Galician language and literature but also of the most varied aspects of Galician country, such as its music, history, films, gastronomy… Also taking in account the different cultural connections between Galicia and Portugal and their people.
Besides the normal class activities, several cultural and formative activities will take place during the semester, such as lectures, concerts , traditional story telling, among others.
We will pay attention at the diversity of the participants in the class, taking into account the different backgrounds of each student.

Teaching method

80% practical classes, 70% theoretical classes. In general, a communicative method will be used, in order to stimulate interaction and an autonomous language learning.

Evaluation method

Assiduity: 10%
Participation in class work: 15%
1 written test, 1 oral test, and a paper on Galician culture (25% each)
