Objectives

a) To improve the knowledge of History of the Federal Republic of Germany from the Second World War until the present, in order to recognize its implications in the present world;
b) To contextualize historical and philosophical issues;
c) To evaluate the evolution of political, philosophical and nationalist structures;
d) To place in a context the evolution of the German political system and Germany’s dominant role in the European Union.

Prerequisites

None.

Subject matter

a) In-depth study of German History through the literary and philosophical reflections of various contemporary authors;
b) Selection of the main periods of German History: The World Wars, the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich; the foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic; Reunification. The Berlin Republic;
c) Newspaper analysis concerning post-reunification.

Teaching method

The teaching methodologies are mainly reflexive and oriented to the contents of the CU. Students will present and discuss key texts and documents.

Evaluation method

A mid-term test (25%) and a final test (25%). Participation in class is highly recommende and includes an oral presentation.(50%)
