Objectives

1.To be able to summon literary and cultural knowledge about 1900-918 Europe to introduce knowledge about German literary movements : Symbolismus, Impressionismus,Jugendstil andExpressionismus.
2. To be able to critical reading of literary works’ (axial) close reading and comprehension of programmatic texts (satelite), both selected as paradigmatic of literary movement and gender.
3.To be able to summon skills for reflexion on literary-history interaction – under thesis-antithesis-synthesis rhythm – reflected upon historical-cultural sequence.
4. To be able to write down small essays to prove paradigmatic character of literary works born in Germany at this Europe´s epoch: referring literary gender and movements, 4.1.Reinforcing the study of communication within literary comunication.

Prerequisites

German language competence level A2.2.

Subject matter

1.To deepen the knowledge of the literary movements in poetry between the turn of the century and 1918: Symbolismus, Impressionismus,Jugendstil and Expressionismus according to:
1.1.overcoming the literary aesthetical representation of reality by Naturalism - artist as an art/life collector – by means of a new humanizer, though critical of his dehumanized society either through Art Nouveau,Ding-Gedicht, Decadence´s aesthesis.
1.2.Emotion’s representation as means of author-reader relationship in the search of utmost density (Dichtung) while expressing individual’s perplexity reflected upon poetic translation (Ein Brief).
1.3.Social and individual representation within an epoch «without a soul».
1.4.Representing the dynamic and dialogical relationship between historical-social and literary realities within «Moderne» while respecting a creator sticked to a vigorous expressiveness heading towards redemption and protest.

Teaching method

The teaching method is mainly through exposition lectures aiming to critical reading, encouraging the commentary and historical-cultural contextualized synthesis; role-play reading session.
Students will present and discuss key texts and documents of the workshop.

Evaluation method

Assessment: three open-book tests (85%); three individual small assignments and qualified participation in class ( 15%).
