Objectives
a) To improve knowledge of the diverse literary forms which have been developed throughout the XXth century across the Iberian Peninsula.
b) To dialog with some of the most relevant texts of several contemporary Iberian literatures (excluding Portuguese literature).
c) To improve knowledge of Iberian and European historical, social, literary and artistic contexts.
d) To develop critical reading skills of their literary texts.
e) To develop skills of finding, selecting and interpreting significant information, through transdisciplinary perspectives, regarding the proposed subjects.
f) To develop skills in order to elaborate reflections, based on argumentation through correctly gathered and articulated information.
g) To develop speech and writing about acquired information, critical readings and personal perspectives and interpretations.

Subject matter
1. An introduction to Iberian contemporary literatures: historical, political, aesthetical and literary contexts.
2. Pío Baroja and El Árbol de la ciencia: Noventayochismo.
3. Modernism. The Expressionism of Valle-Inclán´s \\"Esperpento\\": Las galas del difunto (Martes de Carnaval).
4. Poetry of the \"Generación del 27\".
5. Franco´s dictatorship. \\"Tremendismo\\" and existentialism: Camilo José Cela´s La família de Pascual Duarte and Miguel Delibes Cinco horas con Mario.
6. End of the century, narratives on the Civil War: Alberto Méndez´s Los girasoles ciegos. The bolstering of national literatures.
7. Post-Franquismo theatre: Sanchis Sinisterra´s Ñaque, o de piojos y actores.

Teaching method
Classes will be both theoretical and practical in nature, conecting information from Literary history and Cultural history with methods of literary reading. Collective and individual analyses and reflections are guided by the teacher with tutorial supervision of individually prepared oral and written presentations.
Evaluation method
Evaluation assessment will be individually continuous, through oral and written presentations, comments on essay and literary works, along with a critical analysis of relevant items from the syllabus. reading and discussion of a selection of texts covering the topics outlined in the syllabus; two«frequências» (written examinations).
