Objectives
a) To obtain an in-depth perspective of Hispano-American Literature, from the colonial period to the last decades of the 20th century.
b) To
learn
how
to
relate
texts
and
how
to
read
them
within
historical
and
social
contexts.
c) To read critically key texts of travel literature (Bartolomé de las Casas), poetry (Alonso de Ercilla y Zúñiga, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, José María Heredia, José Martí and Ruben Darío), and fiction (Esteban Echeverría, José Martí, Ruben Darío, Alejo Carpentier, Julio Cortázar, Antología McOndo and Manifiesto del Crack).

1. History, geopolitics and culture: understanding the Hispanic American literatures.
2. The first chronicles of the New World. Bartolomé de las Casas.
3. The colonial period: Alonso de Ercilla y Zúñiga and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.
4. The Romantic Period: the case of El matadero (Esteban Echeverría).
5. The Independence and the national literatures: José María Heredia and José Martí.
6. The Hispanic modernism: Rubén Darío.
7. Narrative strategies in contemporary Hispanic American literature: Alejo Carpentier and Julio Cortázar.
8. The late 20th century: Antología McOndo and Manifiesto del Crack.
