Objectives
Student should:
a) Can understand different expressions of the French language within and outside the borders of the hexagon (Francophony) as well as the main ideas of a long and complex discourse (papers).
b) Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
c) Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
d) Can obtain a knowledge of the cultural and literary life in francophone countries and relevant events in the life of the twentieth century for a better understanding of French society today and its ties with the Francophone countries.
e) Can understand that language is a way to express cultural identity.

Subject matter
The course focuses on various topics and presents :
1 Listening and reading activities from authentic documents (novels, newspaper articles, TV reports, audio and video recordings)
2 - Written and oral interaction activities : discussions and simulation of authentic oral communication situations.
3 Speaking and writing activities of various types of text (descriptive, narrative, explanatory, argumentative and dialogues).
4 Various activities for the acquisition of grammar and vocabulary necessary to achieve different communicative tasks (level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference).

2 written tests in class : 50%
1 spoken task (discursive/informative): 1 individual 25%
Active participation in class (including attendance) and homework 25%
(Minimum attendance: 50% of classes (except student workers)
