Objectives
a) To know and to evaluate different theoretical word formation frameworks and processes;
b) To discuss the notion of morphological productivity;
c) To distinguish the productive word formation processes from the non productive ones;
d) To set the limits of word formation domain;
e) To apply advanced technical skills to morphological analysis.
Prerequisites

Subject matter
1. Presentation and description of the following models of morphological analysis: Item and Arrangement, Item and Process, Word and Paradigm, Generative Morphology and Natural Morphology;
2. Combinatory Properties of prefixes and suffixes;
3. Isofunctional and rival suffixes;
4. Compounding: inflexion and derivation of compounds;
5. The interfaces morphology-phonology, morphology-syntax, morphology-lexicon and morphology-semantics;
6. The place of morphology: does morphology exist as an autonomous component?

Evaluation method
One oral presentation of subject matter related to the curricular unit contents (40%) and one written examination (Frequência) at the end of the semester (60%).
