Objectives
In-depth understanding of the models of justice as socially and politically determined as well as culturally embedded systems, in institutional and consistently bound discursive measures.
Prerequisites
Subject matter
The relationships between criminal justice and the media are now at the centre of current thinking concerning the course of justice. The tension is clear: on the part of the media, given the limitations involving criminal regulation designed to prevent abuse and the side of criminal justice due to the increasing media coverage that exists in today´s societies.
The importance of the subject considers principles such as the presumption of innocence or rights such as the right to defence of the accused. The issue between criminal justice and the media invokes a further issue of a general nature which is the limits to freedom of information and the forms of regulation adopted.
Freedom of information is one of the pillars of a pluralist democracy. Ethical, deontological and legal approaches and specifically criminal justice, should serve as a framework for a review and definition of future prospects, while taking into account European and international texts.
