Objectives

1.Support a professional practice based on solid Spatial Planning (SP) knowledge
2.Know and understand the relation between SP and Environment
3.Understand the various components of Spatial Planning
4.Understand the relationship between the objectives, problems and solutions in Spatial Planning, in the context of the available planning instruments
5.Analyse the connections between the acquired theoretical concepts and the professional practices related to Spatial Planning
Competences
-Knowledge of the origin of the concepts related to Spatial Planning and their evolution, at national and international level
-Understand the relationship between Spatial Planning and environmental policies
-Knowledge of the available territorial analysis techniques regarding problems and threats in Spatial Planning
-Understand Spatial Planning scales, planning resources, and main actors in the planning process
-Create a critical view on the Portuguese Spatial Planning context

1.Spatial Planning as a fundamental practice to promote Sustainable Development: national and international contexts.
2.Different techniques and scales for territorial planning and Spatial Planning.
3.Portuguese Spatial Planning scheme: existing instruments and their interaction.

Teaching method

Theorectical and practical lectures (debates), focusing on: i) theoretical understanding of the principles and instruments used in spatial planning; ii) instruments implementation at national, regional and local level; iii) collaborative learning through discussion, analysis of case studies and group work.

Evaluation method

Continuous evaluation, with individualand group assignments, on-line forum discussions and a final face to face examination.
The evaluation system has the following components:
- Final exam (in person) about the subjects taught (50%);
- Continous evaluation (50%), which translated into participation in the platform (40%) and individual assignment (60%).
