Objectives
a) Mastering (know and work with) the main concepts of analysis of the structures and processes of social stratification in societies of modern times;
b) Know the main theories of structure and social stratification with regard to understanding the structures and processes of social stratification in societies of modern times;
c) Understand the major systems of social classification in the modern era and their construction processes and change and their differences (and lines of continuity) for contemporary societies;
d) Know the main groups of societies of modern times and their processes of formation and transformation;
e) Develop a reflection on the significance and limitations of theory in understanding and explanation of historical processes;
f) To develop analytical skills and understanding of complex systems;
g) develop logical reasoning and a critical perspective;

Teaching method
The methodology uses lectures and theoretical-practical. The first part is based on the exposition by the teacher, based on literature given to students in advance of the main concepts and theories, seeking to promote critical thinking by students, by raising issues and raising their participation in guided discussions.
In practical classes, which refer mainly to the parts of the syllabus for the social vocabulary and social groups, students are called to animate the sessions from the presentation of texts and
documents, which should lead to discussions extended to all the class.
Evaluation method
The assessment consists of four factors: a) participation in general class discussions (20%) b) animation of a discussion session (25%), c) participation in a group work (glossary;
collection of documents) (15%) d) a critical essay (40%).
