Objectives
a) To provide the students with a set of skills both theoretic and practical essential to promote the bibliographic information organization. At the end students should be able to do the descriptive and subject cataloguing of the textual resources using the ISBD and the RPC (Portuguese Cataloguing Rules) to descriptive cataloguing, and using combinatory languages and classifications to the content analysis and representation of information. To codify bibliographic data in machine-readable form the UNIMARC format, bibliographic and authority, will be used.
b) To improve knowledge in what concerns to bibliographic principles, concepts, rules and formats.
c) To reflect critically upon the advantages of the standardization on information access and to analyse the conceptual models FRBR and FRAD and the challenges when they are applied in online information retrieval.
