Objectives

a) To characterize the main systems, networks, services and national and international information and documentation programs and to recognize their importance;
b) To know, select and evaluate the diversity and type of information sources; to understand the early stages of information search in bibliographical information sources; to elaborate search strategies by developing literacy information skills for the use the Internet and of digital and traditional information sources, identifying the utility and value of each one;
c) To distinguish the specificity of the information sources according to their origin knowledge areas; to contextualize the place and role of information services and libraries, by developing selection habits, research skills, document organization and presentation in accordance with appropriate techniques and norms;
d) To distinguish different information approaches and to apply product dissemination techniques and marketing of information services in accordance with rules and good practices;
e) To understand the ethical and legal implications of accessing information; to apply user study methodologies suitable to information services or libraries.

Information and Documentation policies in the national and international context
Documents and information sources:
- Types of documents
- Types of information sources. Primary, secondary and tertiary sources.
- Evolution and function. Advantages, inconveniences and adequacy of the diverse types of information sources
The sources of information in the Internet
- Evaluation of information sources. General and specific criteria
Methodologies of selection and of document and information retrieval in various sources
- Printed, electronic and digitized documents
- Identification of the main electronic sources of information, of the systems of access and the methodologies of research
- Methods and techniques of scientific investigation and of document and information research
Methodologies of organization and presentation of scientific, technical and academic works
Information dissemination, marketing and open/free access
Ethical and legal implications of information access.
