Objectives

b) Know the major works of contemporary political thought and be able to analyze and interpret them in their historical and
cultural context.
c) To acquire knowledge and skills that enable a deeper study of the subjects addressed

Subject matter

It is studying as part of the strategic options of the governments of various regimes that followed in the twentieth century
Portuguese, Portugal´s relations with major regional or global conflicts in which they participated or were affected by. Study
will be, in this context:
- Portugal´s participation in the Great War of 1914/18
- The Portuguese government intervention in the Spanish Civil War (1936/39)
- The Portuguese neutrality during World War II (1939/45)
- The colonial wars in Angola, Mozambique and Guinea (1961/74).
- This approach will be far from the dual perspective of the analysis of various factors (political, economic, ideological ...)
that led to positions with these conflicts and the study of the effects they produced in Portuguese society
