Objectives
The Dissertation must contain:
- Critical Analysis and interpretation of scientific literature concerning the problematic chosen to be established a state of
the question;
- Formulation of a problem or an issue, so that, through scientifically validated methodologies, the degree of knowledge on
the problem chosen can be improved;
- Collecting, analyzing and processing;
The graduate student must also prepare the public discussion of the results and the enunciation of its relevance to the
clarification of the issues chosen.
Prerequisites
Subject matter
Controlling the scattered information on the chosen theme, taking as its starting point a county of small and medium land
area / population, excluding always Lisboa (except the structures of culture extension scheduled to practice for these small
and medium municipalities).
The topics chosen should be based on empirical data verifiable and reliable framed by a refined and updated field of state of
the art literature.
Incentive constant practice of appropriate methodologies and transdisciplinary as well as the use of scientific formalisms of
textualities within the social sciences and humanities.

Teaching method
The chosen themes are always from the theoretical and practical activities and seminars should be based on empirical data
verifiable and reliable framed by a refined and updated field of state of the art literature.
All work and collection of critical information, and comparatist theoretical framework (national and international) will be
guided and mentored regularly by a PhD who in most cases must have the support of co-supervision of an investigator´s
theme.
Evaluation method
The total length of the dissertation should be between the minimum and maximum 40-60 pages (non-teaching component of
33 credits a semester).
