Objectives
The seminar has as a goal the development of fundamental skills that enable implementation of principles and methods for inventory and documentation and conservation of museum practices.
It is intended to provide guidelines for the diagnosis of the documentation of collections / collections and conservation diagnosis reflecting an integrated view of risk factors and the technical and institutional framework of each museum.
It is expected that students become prepared to put into practice the documentation and conservation measures appropriate for the preservation of museum collections.

Part I - Inventory and Documentation in museums
1) Documentation and cataloging of collections in context from the past to the current museum´s practices 2) Key concepts and their application in the museum context; 3) Collections programming.The politics of incorporation; 4) Documentary instruments, computerization, standardization and control of documents of museum´s collections; 5) Documentation and cataloging methodology; 6) From the documental object to the museum documentary system.
Part II - Conservation
1) Preventive Conservation Plan; 2) Risk management; 3) Environmental control and pest management; 4) Museum storage; 5) Handling and packing, moving and transport; 6) Exhibition and conservation; 7) Security and emergency planning; 8) Museum conservation in practice.

Teaching method
Lessons with expository component (supported by audiovisual resources) and the presentation of case studies and analysis of best practices. Following the seminar format, students participate in the survey and selection of cases through visits to museums and some lectures and discussions with professionals and technicians in the areas of documentation and cataloging of collections in museums.
Presentation of case studies through collaboration of researchers from the Department of Conservation and Restoration of the Faculty of Science and Technology (UNL).
Evaluation method
Evaluation by attendance (minimum 75%) and active participation in seminar sessions, submitting a form reading within the recommended bibliography or other previously proposed and accepted at the workshop and the presentation and discussion of a paper written in the form report or plan or project, reported to the documentation and preservation of an
object or a collection in museological context.
