Objectives

1. To know how to identify photographic processes and deterioration forms, in order to be able to distinguish generically different types of photographs and thus to be able to manage possible conservation problems.
2. Understand and frame photographic documentation in the context of information sciences, recognizing the specific characteristics of this type of document, but valuing an integrative and systemic perspective.
3. Planning the management of photographic collections, taking into account their needs in terms of preservation and its availability to the public.

Teaching method

Theoretical lectures with the exhibition of the syllabus of the seminar, followed by practical lessons that will be debated and problematized the themes previously presented.
At the beginning of the semester each student will be given the calender of the entire seminary, knowing in advance the topics discussed in each session and the respective required reading for participation in the debate.

Evaluation method

a) Individual work theoretical-practical: the student must choose an institution with photographic documentation and analyze, based on knowledge acquired, the documental and conservation treatment performed there. Maximum of 15 pages (40%);
b) Critical review of a text (chosen from the required readings). Maximum of 5 pages (30%);
c) Oral presentation of critical review (20%);
d) Attendance and participation in class (10%).
