Objectives

1. Knowledge and understanding of theories and concepts in the sociology and economics of education that allow for a better understanding of the relationship among education, social change and economic development.
2. Ability to apply acquired knowledge to autonomously conceive a probleatisation essay or a research project on a relevant topic within the scope of the curricular unit.
3. Ability to present, aergue and discuss critically problems and research projects on relevant topics within the scope of the curricular unit.

Teaching method

Lectures on theories and concepts and examples of cases and problems;
Seminar presentatiion and discussion of the students essays;
Tutorial monitoring and guidance of the development of students´ projects, either individually or in small groups;

Evaluation method

Continuous assesment of students´ participation in class debates (20%);
One written essay on a research problem devised by the student on a relevant topic (70%);
Oral presentation and discussion of the essay (10%).
