Objectives

It is intended that students attain skills to:
1. Deepen disciplinary knowledge obtained in the undergraduate courses in this area of specialization;
2. Understand from the sociological point of view, the interdependencies between social and natural systems;
3. Show ability to collect data and develop studies on the processes of territorial change and nature protection.
4. Show ability to communicate clearly the theories, concepts and research results in the subject field of the discipline.

Teaching method

Classes combine:
- Presentation of theoretical concepts by the teacher with participation of students in the discussion;
- Presentation by students of a conceptual paper;
- supervision the preparation by each student of state of the art or a research project on a relevant topic.
To support the practical classes text on ecology and risks, environmental movements and environmental perception (in Europe and Portugal ), studies on the impact of globalization in the contemporary societies, on environmental problems and the environmental conflicts in Portugal will be provided.

Evaluation method

Continuous assessment of the student’s participation in class discussions and presentations.
Delivery of a bibliographic essay or a research essay on a relevant topic to be agreed with the teacher.
