Objectives

The intention is that students to acquire:
1) Ability to apply theories and concepts of urban sociology, planning and environmental analysis and questioning of concrete empirical cases;
2) Ability to apply sociological theories and research methods to the design of a research project, professional development or sociological intervention in sociology from the territory of the city and the environment;
3) Ability to expound, argue and critically discuss their research project, professional development or sociological intervention.

Subject matter

Research Issues:
Examples of topics and issues relevant to the analysis, the sociological intervention and professional practice of sociologists within the sociology of the territory, the city and the environment (integration of knowledge taught in the thematic seminars, presentation of real situations):
1 In terms of scales: land use planning as a strategic element of the analysis of the transformation of the uses of space;
2 On the problematic dimension of human survival: the question of resources and the mechanisms of their control and their uneven distribution;
3 On the intervention in specific territorial contexts: city policies and urban regeneration and rural renewal.

Teaching method

Discussion with the students of their initial proposals of topics and issues to research in their thesis, work project or internship for professional development (at the beginning of the semester) and presentation and discussion of the individual projects (at the end of the semester).
Supervision of the students project development either individually or in small groups.
Student’s projects presentation and discussion with a view to proceed to their final master thesis.
