Objectives
1) To give the students methodological means of analysis which can provide them with the understanding of both source language and target language.
2) To develop a feel for the language.
3) To recreate a literary work within the framework of another language and culture, respecting the rhythm of the work.
4) To enhance the ability to read between the lines and to grasp the styles, the subtleties and the contexts.

Subject matter
1. To reconstruct the source text as though it was written in the target language: examples from poetry, novels, short stories, drama, comic strips, and film scripts
2. To compare various translations of the same source text
3.To analyse particular problems of cross-language and cross-cultural transfer
4. To analyse denotative and connotative meanings (ambiguities, idioms, connotations, wordplay)
5. Difficulties arisen from specific characteristics in content and style in prose, poetry and drama
6. How to translate children´s literature

Teaching method
The teaching methodologies selected for this curricular unit will be mainly based on on the discussion and comparison of literary texts in the classroom, on cognitive translation activities and on both individual work and teamwork.
Evaluation method
Assessment will be contiuous, focussing on three main areas: 1) presentation and discussion of translations in the classroom (20%); 2) two tests (50%); and 3) an oral presentation of a final written piece of work ( 10-15 pages) (30%).
