Objectives
The main objectives of the research seminar are:
i) to develop autonomous research skills that are relevant for writing a dissertation in the domain of Language Sciences;
ii) to develop oral communication skills, argumentation and critical analysis, considering different textual academic genres;
iii) to be able to write a research project, identifying relevant research questions, selecting appropriate methodologies and foreseeing expected outcomes;
iv) to attain some knowledge of research areas developed within the Linguistics Research Unit of FCSH-UNL (Centro de Linguística da Universidade Nova de Lisboa).
Prerequisites
We recommend knowledge of English and mastery of linguistic analysis.

Teaching method
Classes are both theoretical and practical, including the comparative analysis of different types of academic texts. under the supervision of the teacher, students shall prepare a research project (including a short summary, identification of relevant research questions, state of the art, methodology and expected outcomes).
Evaluation method
1) Written and oral presentation of a research project (70%);
2) Review of a scientific paper (30%).
