Objectives
To get familiar with the didactics and methods of teaching and learning German as a foreign language.
-To reflect on teaching-and-learning issues in pedagogical contexts
-To develop reflection on the foreign language learner, the different teacher roles, and classroom interaction patterns.
-To develop productive and receptive skills - interaction and mediation.
-To increase awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity both in the mother and foreign language.

Subject matter
Theories, methodologies and approaches to teaching GFL: from Grammar/Translation to Intercultural communicative approach.
Communicative language activities (productive, receptive, interactive and mediation) and processes (planning and monitoring).
General competences and communicative language competences.
Notions of evaluation and assessment; the role of error in a pedagogical perspective.
Testing instruments and techniques.
Techniques for observation in the classroom and its evaluation
Intercultural learning and intercultural competence: articulation between the self-perspective and the other´s perspective.
The curriculum of GFL in Portugal and its links with the CEFRL.
Lesson planning.

Teaching method
Classes will favour the practical implementation of theory, interaction and students active participation both individually and in a group.
Evaluation method
Regular presence and contribution during classes (30%) and individual assignments throughout the semester (30%) and a written test in class (40%).
