Objectives


1. Analyze the contribution of anthropology to the study of nature conservation;
2. Understand and discuss the approach of the environment as a social and cultural construction;
3. Promote methodological skills in the field of Environmental Anthropology;
4. Develop the ability to analyze and evaluate the dynamics present in nature conservation projects.

Prerequisites

None.

Subject matter

1. Anthropology and environment. Basic concepts and precursors.
2. Ecological knowledge, cosmologies and social representations of the environment.
3. Ethnoecology. Economic systems, social differentiation and local management of biological resources.
4. Studies and methodological tools of Etnobiology applied to nature conservation.
5. Knowledge associated with genetic resources. Bioprospecting, biopiracy and intellectual property rights.
6. The analysis of environmental literacy. Environmentalism discourses and practices as an object of Anthropology.
7. Planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes for the preservation and conservation of the environment in an anthropological perspective.

Teaching method

Lectures and practical classes: teaching methodology that seek to combine the presentation and discussion of theoretical concepts with practical analytical work based on case studies.

Evaluation method

Evaluation: Participation (10%) Presentation and discussion of a case study (20%); Writing of an individual final paper work (70%).
