Objectives

1. Acquiring knowledge of the contents of the music learning theory.
2. Acquiring critical reflection parameters from the model of music learning theory and educative discussions generated around it.
3. Acquire practical skills in musical and relational terms appropriate to the process of teaching music.
4. Acquire practical skills in musical and relational terms suitable for Music Education in General and Artistic Curricula: 2nd and 3rd Cicles of Ensino Básico and contexts of Ensino Vocacional.

Subject matter

. Principles and elements of music learning theory. Life and work of Edwin Gordon.
Contributions to the Psychology of Music and Musical Pedagogy.
Audiation: concept, types and stages.
Music aptitude and music achievement. Definition and evaluation tools.
Learning sequences: skills and content. Tonal patterns and rhythmic patterns.
Learning and evaluation process: discrimination and inference.
Creativity and improvisation.
Organization and teaching techniques: learning sequence activities, classroom and performance activities; syllabic movable systems: tonal solfege and rhythmic solfege.
Discussion and use of educational materials based on this model of education: Jump Right In curriculum. It’s application to the teaching of musical instruments.
Applying principles, techniques and teaching strategies based on music learning theory in classes of simulation representing both general education and artistic education in music, including the teaching of musical instruments.

Teaching method

Theoretical and expository lectures transmitting concerning the model of music learning theory.
Analysis and discussion of texts.
Observation and discussion of films relating to education and teaching practices based on the model of music learning theory.
Practical sessions with simulated situations of music teaching directed to general and vocational Music Education.

Evaluation method

1) Presentation of a review paper based on a proposed theme: a document created from the research and analysis of texts, films, practical sessions and other materials relating to the issues studied. (40%).
2) A theoretical test (30%)
