Objectives
1.To deepen knowledge and critical understanding of theoretical and methodological issues in Media and Journalism Studies;
2.To develop students skils with respect to value an interdisciplinary perspective and a focus on contemporary media environments and their antecedents.
3.To apply theoretical and methodological frameworks from the Media and Journalism Studies in the research design of socially relevant phenomena related to the media and journalism.
4.To define and design an original and achievable research project on Media and Journalism Studies.
Prerequisites
Subject matter
The syllabus of the seminar is based on two pilars: 1) The research interests expressed by the PhD students, in order to provide them with theoretical and methodological backgrounds that favours the development of their research projects; 2) The presentation and discussion of research projects in Media and Journalism Studies, so as to provide theoretical and methodological orientations already tested as well as the discussion of their results and conclusions.

-Oriented and supervised readings, presentation and discussion of texts;
-Regular production of research progress especially focused on the literature review;
-Access to research in Media and Journalism Studies, involving national and comparative studies already completed.
- Participation in discussion groups with doctoral students who are conducting their theses.
- Participation in public events related to Media and Journalism.
Evaluation method
A strong individual accountability, a differentiated supervision, and the access to recent research in Portuguese and internationally, on the other hand, aim to empower students to perform successfully the central objective of the seminar: the production of an achievable and well sustained research project.
