Objectives
a) Comprehensive identification of fundamental issues in contemporary philosophical thought
b) To contextualize those issues diachronically and synchronically
c) To improve critical and analytical capabilities through the study of relevant contemporary philosophical texts

Subject matter
In a reading of Sartre´s essay on ontology «L´ être et le néant», the following topics will be discussed:
* the phenomenological concept of nothingness (the origin of negation),
* presence to self, the cogito (immediate structures of the for-itself),
* the circuit of selfness (immediate structures of the for-itself),
* being-for-others (the existence of others),
* language (concrete relations with others),
* being-with (Mitsein) and the we (concrete relations with others).
Some of these themes will be analyzed in opposition to Heidegger´s ontology in «Sein und Zeit».

Evaluation method
The student can choose among the following possibilities: a) one or two oral reports, with prior information concerning the topic [weighting factor: 20%, each] + a written test; or, b) a paper [weighting factor: 40%] + a written test; or, c) only a written test.
