Objectives
a) Understanding tourism and leisure as phenomena characterized by great diversity that depend on the territory and interact with it;
b) Deepening the knowledge on national and international dimensions of tourism phenomenon, from the supply and demand perspectives;
c) Identifying different patterns of tourist mobility and of tourism areas development;
d) Reviewing different solutions for tourism planning both on territorial and strategic perspectives;
e) Enhancing the role of Geography in the practice of tourism careers.

None.
Subject matter
(1) The concept of leisure and its historical context; (2) From the origins of tourism to its globalization; (3) The relevance of the geographical perspective on the practice and study of leisure and tourism phenomena; (4) The international dimension of tourism in the twenty-first century - patterns of tourist mobility and of tourism territories development; (5) Tourism in Portugal - supply, demand and public administration frame; (6) Territorial and strategic planning on Portuguese Tourism; (7) The uses of geographical knowledge in tourism careers.

Teaching method
Lectures and participatory classes. In the practical component students are asked to: i) prepare essays on reports and on national and international statistics; II) research on web pages of public and private organizations related to tourism and leisure; III) make oral presentations.
Evaluation method
Each student is required to:
- Read selected bibliography, whose contents will be the support of written tests:
a. Full test (35%);
b. 5 short tests (approximately 30 minutes), being counted the 4 of those with better classifications (35%)
NOTE: Students who require it - for example, for not having performed four tests - can concentrate on Full test the 70% determined by these elements of assessment
- Develop a written essay (group work - 20%) and its oral presentation (3 moments of individual action - 5%);
- Statutory class attendance and appropriate class participation (5%)
