Objectives
The Seminar on Spatial Planning and Management aims at raising the students awareness concerning the current problematic of spatial planning in Portugal, either from planning or the management point of view.
The student shall improve the critical capacity to reflect on the main national territorial constrains in current time and shall also develop his skills on both the analyses and elaboration of spatial plans, especially at the local level.
The student shall develop the following skills:
-Capacity to reflect and communicate on the main paradigms of spatial planning and management in current times.
-Specific knowledge about concepts, methods and models of spatial planning and management.
-Specific knowledge about institutions, regulations and procedures related to the practical implementation of spatial planning process.
-Capacity to introduce and debate proposals of spatial planning and management in different public social-cultural contexts.

Subject matter
1. Problematic of spatial planning in Portugal in current times.
2. Introduction to strategic, relational and collaborative planning.
3. Analysis of plans in different scales.
4. Normative and institutional aspects.
5. Territorial management in a governance framework.

Teaching method
There will be theoretical (seminar approach) and practical classes and a case study will be selected to go into a spatial analysis and proposals, according to goals course. In the first case a will be carried out, providing the essential contents to the practical component.
Evaluation method
Continuos evaluation focused on the presentation and discussion of the final work. Each group will give a presentation in 2 different moments. In the first one a preliminary structure and method will be presented to be approved. In the second moment the final results will be presented (All the members of the group). The work: 25 pag. max.
