Objectives

a) To develop analytical skills for the understanding of the complex object that is a city and its historical evolution through
the case-study of Lisbon;
b) To develop the capacity to apply the historical concepts acquired in reflection on the city today;
c) To become acquainted with the most important moments of the historical evolution of Lisbon;
d) To understand the historical processes that constructed the city in which we live today.

Teaching method

In-class discussions will be based on the bibliography and will be supported by textual and graphic materials. Fieldtrips
complement in-class teaching.

Evaluation method

Students will be graded on the basis of a test (50%) and a paper (50%). The paper consists of an encyclopedia article (max.
10.000 characters) on a topic relating to the syllabus, chosen by the student in consultation with the docent
