Objectives
1. Understanding of systematical, statistical, computer assisted data processing in relation to the overall research strategy;
2. Ability to pally the mediationg oprations between the research corpus and the analytical protocol;
3. Ability to define a list of expectd outcomes for data analysis;
4. Knowledge of the main statistical tools for multivariate data analysis in sociology;
5. Ability to use association analyses and measures in a multivariate perspective;
6. Knowledge of (simple and multiple) factorial analysis techniques and understanding how to integrate them in analytical protocols;
7. Understanding of the basic algorythms of simple and multiple multivariate analyses;
8. Ability to use the main statistical processing software;
9. Ability to communicate the results of multivariate statistical analysis and their interpretation.
Prerequisites
The students must have completed 48 ECTS credit units.
Prior attendance of the following classes is recommended: Social Science Theory and Methodology, Sociological Research Methods and Techniques: Sampling and Surveying, and Univariate and Bivariate Data Analysis.
Subject matter
1. Definition of the stages and the mais tools needed for the oporationalization of sociological research strategies
2. Variables, statitical processing and definition of analytical protocols
3. Codification of survey data and building up of the data matrix
4. Systematizing statistical knowledge in the perspective of survey data processing and analysis at the unvariate and bivariate levels
5. A primer to multivariate analysis techniques
6. Explanation of the basic mathematical algorythms required for the adequate use of techniques
7. Presentation of the parameters and basic techniques required by the use of the main statistical processisng software currently available

Lectures presenting systematized and structured knowledge of both tehoretical and technical nature;
Exercises carried out in practical classes and as homework.
Evaluation method
Continuous evaluation of exercises carried out in class (30%);
A written test in class (70%).
