Objectives
a) To identify the study object of pragmatics.
b) To relate enunciation, reference construction and meaning support.
c) To characterize speech acts and types of inference.
d) To identify the linguistic processes of contemporary European Portuguese that mark different illocutionary forces and support presuppositional mechanisms.
e) To analyze the functioning principles which carry out the verbal interaction.

Subject matter
1. Referential and enunciative approach; the role of deictical markers in the construction of sense.
2. The study object of pragmatics and different pragmatic approaches
3. Accional approach; the concept of speech act, different types of speech acts and the linguistic markers of different illocutionary forces.
4. Inferential approach; the concept of inference, different types of inference and principles of verbal interaction.
5. Conversational pragmatics - introductory aspects.

Theoretical and practical classes (presentation and discussion of individual and group works; analysis and discussion workshops).
Evaluation method
A test on all the subjects taught during the semester. Different group works presented in class. Preparation of an individual critical review.
