Objectives
To thoroughly study historical and archaeological aspects occuring from the first momments of human colonization in Portugal to the raising of early state societies.
b) To provide specialized information about the economical, social, technological, ideological and cognitive evolution of Prehistoric societies in different regions of Portugal
c) To recognize the importance of the natural environment and its resources in the economical, social and technological development
d) To inform about the characteristics and specificities of Prehistoric archaeological structures and remains and the behaviors that such remains reveal;
e) Allow future archaeologists to acquire technical and theoretical knowledge with the objective of providing good professional services as well as the ability to develop their own projects and new interpretation models from the Prehistoric past.

Subject matter
Each year one of the following subjects will be approached
- Life and death in the Mesolithic.
- The rise of food production societies.
- Megalithism societies and symbols
- Chalcolithic societies; the rise and fall of a civilization.
- Bronze Age. Resources and social status.

Presentation of courseworks. Activities supervised by the lecturer field trips to museums, archaeological excavations and
sites.
Evaluation method
- Written test (50%)
- Written individual or group coursework (maximum 10 pp) (50%)
The students with a plus than 10 points average will be approved.
