Education objectives

Energy production from biomass (forest and dedicated) and the waste has been playing an important role at the level of regional economies, national and European level, namely the production of solid biofuels from forest biomass or biomass dedicated, liquid fuels from biomass and waste and gaseous biofuels from biomass and waste, as well as technologies to recovery that has taken heat in recent years, a key role in the production of steam and electricity in several European countries The interdisciplinary nature of the PhD ensures the acquisition of a high-level academic training in the systematic understanding of the subject area Energy and Bioenergy: 

  • Proficiency to identify, analyze and evaluate issues related to energy production from biomass and waste; 
  • Proficiency to devise answers, plan and implement innovative solutions for the use of recyclable energy products based on the development of focused research; 
  • Proficiency to design, develop and implement appropriate methodologies to the valuation of forest, development of biological, consequences of activities carried out and the occurrence of risk situations; 
  • Proficiency to propose answers, plan and implement innovative solutions in the processes of standardization and certification of products and systems for production and processing of recyclable materials from the standpoint of energy; 
  • Proficiency to design, develop and implement appropriate methodologies for the improvement of technologies for energy recovery of biomass; 
  • Proficiency to design, develop and implement methodologies to assess the qualitative aspects of production processes and distribution of energy obtained from biomass and waste energy recoverable, as part of an environmental policy and forestry; 
  • Proficiency to develop, integrate and disseminate the acquired knowledge and new concepts in the academic and / or employment and the promotion of technological, social or cultural.

The interdisciplinary nature of the Doctoral Program on Energy and Bioenergy ensures the formation of researchers and professionals with high skills, able to integrate international teams, of recognized merit, either in the public as the private sector, as national, European and world levels.

Evaluation rules

The following modes of evaluation are used with regard to academic qualifications:

1. Evaluation based on an examination or completion of a final project; 2. Evaluation based on work done throughout the semester excluding examination or final project. In these courses students can expect to carry out, for example, laboratory activities, individual projects, seminar-related activities, any combination of which will be used to determine the final grade; 3. Evaluation based obligatorily on an examination or a final project. In these courses there extists a form of evaluation similar to one of the aformentioned activities in paragraph 2 as well as a form of evaluation based on a final exam; 4. Evaluation based on work done throughout the semester with the possibility of foregoing an examination or a final project.

The Thesis evaluation will be done by the PhD board members. It will be considered the student performance in the fulfilment of the work plan, its written registration (Ph thesis and scientific papers already published or to be published) and the student performance during the public submit of the thesis.
