Education objectives
Training of specialists in the areas of Earth and Engineering Sciences, after a first cycle in GE at FCT-UNL.
The professional skills of geological engineers at FCT-UNL since 1987 encompass three areas of employability: geoenvironmental engineering, geotechnics and georesources, both in Portugal and abroad.
The general objectives are:
- Expand the training received during the first cycle, allowing to increase skills and obtain further knowledge development with autonomy, namely, applying new methodologies and optimization of industrial processes in the pursuit of quality assurance and safety in engineering and taking into account the inherent social, economic and environmental impacts.
- Training broadband geological engineers, facilitating mobility in the profession according to market needs, nationally and internationally, whether for industry
and services, or for research and development.

Evaluation rules
The following modes of assessment for the curriculum component may be used:
1. Assessment only with a finaltest or paper.
2. Distributed evaluation without final exam or paper. In subjects with this method of assessment, there will be throughout the academic year, for example, laboratory work, mini-tests, tests, individual or group seminars, to be awardedclassification with which to construct the final classification.
3. Distributed evaluation with compulsory examination or final paper. Insubjects with this method of assessment, there will be an evaluation componentsimilar to the preceding point and an evaluation component with the final exam.
4. Distributed evaluation with the possibility of exemption from examination orfinal paper.
The Dissertation comprises a public discussion before a Jury, in accordance with law.
