Objectives

The main objective of this discipline is offer technician ground and advanced knowledge in design of  unit operations and processes in water treatment and supply. This discipline appears in sequence and in articulation with outher disciplines, namely  Water Supplying and Treatment Techniques. The studends must acquire an integrated and deepened knowledge relative to the (i) technician beddings, (ii) the several applications and (iii) the pre-design of the unit operations and the complementary processes in water treatment

Prerequisites

Not applicable

Subject matter

Beddings and pre-design of the unit operations and processes of aeration and air stripping, flotation, adsorption, ion exchanges, membrane separation  (microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis), removal of specific contaminantes (arsenic, nitrates, iron and manganese, hardness).

Teaching method

The course will develop a theoretical and practical aspects of three hours per week where we  discusses the various topics in the proposed program, including also a more practical perspective where we learn to identify, solve real problems within UC objectives and also the scale unit operations and processes that may be used in the rehabilitation system perspective in the design of new systems using non-conventional technologies.

Evaluation method

The evaluation is performed by 3 Mini-tests with duration of 60 min. , to be held inside of class time.

The curriculum unit to be completed provides the need of the student be present in at least two-thirds of practical classes, a condition required to obtain frequency.
