Objectives
The discipline of Urban and Regional Planning aims to contribute to the education of future civil engineer in the spatial and urban planning.
The need of planning and scheduling equipments and infrastructureto suport human activities on the territory, requires that civil engineer have knowledge and competences to planning the use of the territory.
Likewise the contribution of civil engineer is also necessary in the planning process of mobility and transport systems are importante wend inserted in profissional teams.
The concept of Sustainability shows how determinant is the practice of the engineer in particularly in strategic planning.
It is intended to provide the future engineer skills to develop studies and projects in the field of spatial and urban planning.
Prerequisites
There are no requirements beacause is a mandatory unit of the 1st cycle of studies of MIEC.
Subject matter
This course emphasizes the study of the territory and its relationship to human activities, establishing and enabling conditions for the development of societies through the functions:
1 - Concepts of Spatial Planning and Urban Planning as a tool for the process ofintroduction of the future civil engineer in the process of urban planning;
2 - Understanding the links between regional and urban planning and mobility, transport and urban infrastructure networks.
3 - Understanding the Sustainability of the development process and practice ofcorporate strategic planning in Portugal.
4 - The process of urbanization of the territory and the right to property through the design and the skills of public administration to the social function of soil;
5 - Contents theoretical and practical management of the territory and resources and methodology of the planning process (planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation), and the practice of urban planning

Theoretical and practical lectures.
Presentation of case studies and solving exercises with resources mapping and computerized means.
Utilization of audiovisual media during the lessons of theory and practice
Evaluation method
Treorical andpratical Assessment Model
Written test = 25% final grade
Practical Work Group = 25% of final grade
Practical Work Single = 50% final grade
Written test minimum score of 8 (25% final grade).
Obtaining Frequency: presence of at least two thirds of the classes in each component: Theory and Practice.
