Objectives

The curricular unit objective is the preparation of a proposal concerning an original research work plan in a due scientific subject, carries out by the students in great autonomy. The students learn to do the state-of-art concerning a due subject, which is adequate to a deepen research to be carried along the thesis work period. The students acquire the skills to elaborate a research work proposal, including a critical synthesis of the diversified approaches and scientific proposals, and the competences to conceive and plan a research work  adding their own personal perspective concerning the properly identification of the current scientific challenges and the results’ dissemination strategy.

Subject matter

Proposal of the thesis work plan which include the conception, planning and timetable of the research activities to be developed and its dissemination and validation by the scientific community.

Bibliography

Scientific and technological papers and reference works in the scientific area or related ones of the thesis`s subject.

Teaching method

The learning methodologies include individual students` sessions with the work supervisor for discussion and following up the activities and to ensure the requirements’ fulfillment necessary for the elaboration of the thesis work proposal. It can also include the attendance to specific seminaries. The students’ work is done mainly in autonomy.

Evaluation method

The assessment is constituted by the elaboration of the proposal of the thesis work plan and its presentation and discussion in a public seminary. The evaluation is done by the Thesis Accompanying Committee, according the following criteria: 1) Report quality (20%); 2) Relevance and innovation (20%); 3) Methodologies (20%); 4) Activities planning (20%); 6) Oral presentation and discussion (20%). The curricular unit approval requires a minimum classification of 9.5 values (out of 20 values).
