Objectives
Upon conclusion of this course the student will be able to specify the sampling of continuous time signals, analyze and manipulate signals, both on the discrete time and frequency domain, and apply these techniques to biological signals. The course promotes initiative, autonomy, critical mind and implementation abilities.

Teaching method
Lectures
- Attendance is suggested but not required. Lectures will include examples of application.
Lab classes:
- Attendance is suggested but not required. Lab work will be evaluated as a component of mini-tests.
Evaluation method
Approval in the course unit ''''Signal Analysis'''' can be achieved through one of two alternative forms:
1. Average grade above 9.5 (on a 20 value scale) on 3 mini-tests to be held during the semester (with weights of 30%, 35% and 35%). In assessing the 3rd mini-test a minimum grade of 7.5 values is required.
2. Completion of a final exam (''''recurso'''') with 9.5 values as minimum grade. The grade on this exam will be the final grade.
A frequency grade is not required to be admitted to the final exam.
For the purpose of item 1. above, the mini-tests will be scheduled for lecture classes, and will have two components: ''''theoretical/practical'''' evaluation (75m), and laboratorial evaluation (20m). The lab evaluation will be based directly on the work performed during the lab classes. The lab component of the mini-tests will have a weight of 25%.
Class attendance is free and will not be evaluated. At the end of each practice session an individual questionnaire on the activity carried out in class will be answered. Students who answer the questionnaire in class are exempted from performing the laboratory component of the corresponding mini-tests.
Students with a frequency grade at the course unit obtained in previous years only need to do the ''''theoretical/practical'''' component of the mini-tests in order to be approved through modality 1. above.
As aide-memoire, students are allowed to bring to the the mini-tests and the exam a single A4 sheet of paper with formulas, tables or lab work information, for instance. Programmable gadgets or mobile phones are not allowed.
