Objectives
The curricular unit Dissertation concludes the academic path leading to the Master’s degree in Environment Engineering. Therefore, their objectives envisage assuring that students acquired a thorough level of knowledge in the field of Environment Engineering. Furthermore, the student must integrate acquired knowledge and skills assuring their utilization in broader contexts, notably in technical and scientific frameworks in the mentioned field.
Subject matter
In this curricular unit each student must perform his R&D work in accordance with the objectives set out in the dissertation plan, approved by MIEA Scientific Committee.
The student will undertake research work about a theme in the scientific area of environment sciences and engineering. The specific syllabus will be variable in accordance with the selected research topic. The student will develop his master thesis which should demonstrate the competence to perform the critical analysis of the relevant scientific bibliography, ability to endorse research questions and to use scientific methods to achieve the master thesis objectives. The student must acquire competences for data analysis and treatment.
The dissemination of results at scientific conferences and in technical journals is encouraged.
Bibliography
There are several areas within Environmental Engineering in which the student might focus his thesis development. Therefore the bibliography will be different in accordance with the research issue. Scientific texts proposed by the supervisor and intense bibliographic research, are recommended in order to establish the state of the art.
