Objectives
International Trade Law deals with the study of principles and rules that govern international commercial transactions, i.e., commercial transactions having relevant connections with different systems of law.
Students must discover the plurality of sources and of methods as a distinguishing feature of International Trade Law.Subject matter
I. Sources of law in International Trade Law.
II. International commercial contracts.
1. The concept of international contract. The law applicable to international commercial contracts. The Rome Convention and the Rome I Regulation on the law applicable to contractual obligations. The UNIDROIT Principles of international commercial contracts and the Principles of European contract law.
2. International sale of goods. The Vienna Convention on the international sale of goods. Incoterms.
3. International agency. The Hague Convention on agency.
4. International leasing and international factoring.
III. International litigation.
1. The Brussels I Regulation and the 1968 Brussels Convention on jurisdiction and the enforcement of judgements in civil and commercial matters.
2. International commercial arbitration. The 1958 New York Convention. International arbitration under Portuguese Law 63/2011.Bibliography

Classes of this discipline are taught in an interactive system. Based on the theoretical knowledge acquired in the first classes concerning the sources and the methods of International Trade Law, students shall present interactive displays about subjects comprised in parts II e III of the program.
