Objectives
To make available to future jurists a balanced image, given in the light of contemporary Political Science, of some of the characteristics of present societies, deemed as more useful for their training: the legal and political transformations accompanying globalization and the reactions to it.
Subject matter
What is Politics: from the science of power to its study. The cientificity of the study of Politics: the “paternity” of the subject-matter and the distinction of distinction of facts and values as a determining element. The great currents of PoliticAL Science: from political philosophy to sociology. Forms of power: political regimes and systems in their classical and contemporary formats. Historical experiences of power: polis, Empire, State, totalitarianism. The emrgence of new types of political organization: integration and jural-political reconfigurations of the global world. Interdependence, sovereignty and the future of the nation-State. Territorial and universal jurisdictions; the frontiers of community. From community to cosmopolis: are there universal values? Democracies and representation: plebescitarianism, direct democracy and representative one. Contemporary political ideas: Rights and Lefts – conservatims, liberalism , socialism. Modern States and globalization.
